It’s one of the biggest themes of the macro moment:
INFLATION
…and it’s coming to our new Substack service!
When I was consulting with potential subscribers as part of designing our new entry-level service, I sort of struggled a little with what in my experience is one of the trickiest issues in business: pricing.
You don’t want to price it too high or people won’t buy, and you don’t want to price it too low and devalue the thing.
You also want to make sure that the price provides the best fit with the quality of the offering and the characteristics of the intended client.
>>> Pricing is hard.
So I went with what I thought was a very fair and easily affordable price.
Some told me it was a good price, others told me it was too cheap.
Take up has been solid so far.
People are clearly voting with their wallets that the price is acceptable.
But it still leaves questions.
To get to the point…
In the end I decided what I would do would be to start with that initial price i.e. $20/month or $195/year >>> and then increase the price after hitting various subscriber milestones.
To me this seems to be a sensible approach:
It rewards early supporters (they stay on the initial fee).
It will reflect elevation of quality through time (which I am committed to delivering on).
It will prompt fence sitters to take action as I will telegraph fee hikes well in advance (we all need a little nudge from time to time).
So on that last point…
I’m pleased to announce that I have reached my initial subscriber target, and as such fees will be going up next Wednesday (the 16th of June 2021).
New Fees from 16 June:
>> The new subscription fees will be $25/month or $245/year
As noted, these fees will only apply to new subscribers from the 16th of June (New Zealand time) onwards.
And to be clear: if you have already subscribed your fees will stay the same.
So if you have been thinking about signing up you might as well do it now.
The key takeaway is: if you subscribe before the 16th of June you will get in on the original fee of $20/month or $195/year instead of the new higher prices noted above.
If you have any questions about the service I would encourage you to check out the free articles as they talk through some of the key points e.g. research process, what the service includes, track record, etc.
